3 Days and 2 Nights – Manu Cultural Zone Tour
This 3-day Manu Cultural Zone tour in Peru is ideal for travelers with limited time who want to experience the highlights of the Manu rainforest. The tour combines wildlife observation, jungle excursions and a hands-on reforestation project, allowing you to explore the Amazon while contributing directly to its conservation and supporting sustainable tourism.
Itinerary
Your adventure to Manu National Park begins early in the morning with an 8-hour scenic drive that climbs up to 4,000 meters (13,000 ft) above sea level. Along the way, we’ll make several fascinating stops — including a visit to the pre-Inca cemetery of Ninamarca and the traditional Andean town of Paucartambo (2,900 m), famous for its vibrant folklore and colonial bridge.
We’ll then continue toward Acjanaco Pass, the official entrance to Manu National Park, where the Amazon rainforest begins to reveal its incredible biodiversity. From here, the road descends through the lush cloud forest, home to a spectacular variety of plants such as orchids, ferns, bromeliads, and begonias. Keep your eyes open for wildlife — you might spot woolly monkeys, capuchin monkeys, or even the Cock-of-the-Rock (Rupicola peruviana), Peru’s dazzling national bird, performing its colorful mating dance.
As we continue our journey, you’ll also have the chance to see quetzals, trogons, tanagers, and hummingbirds among the misty trees.
We’ll enjoy our breakfast, snacks, and lunch en route (all included).
In the afternoon, we arrive at the charming Bamboo Lodge (700 m / 2,300 ft), surrounded by tropical forest. Here, you’ll relax, enjoy a delicious dinner, and spend the night in comfortable private rooms with ensuite bathrooms.
After breakfast, we take part in our reforestation project, where each traveler plants a tree in a private area currently undergoing ecological recovery. This meaningful activity allows you to contribute directly to Amazon rainforest conservation.
We then visit the hummingbird garden, an excellent spot to observe and photograph several species of these fascinating birds.
Later, we head to the riverside town of Atalaya, where we board our private boat and navigate along the Madre de Dios River toward Erika Lodge, our accommodation for the second night in the Amazon.
In the afternoon, we explore Machuwasi Lake, a pristine oxbow lake ideal for wildlife observation. Here you may spot hoatzins, toucans, capybaras, and a wide variety of other Amazonian wildlife in their natural habitat.
At night, there is an optional guided night walk from the lodge, offering the chance to discover the incredible nocturnal fauna of the Amazon rainforest, including insects, frogs, and night-active mammals.
Please note: At this lodge, bathrooms and showers are shared, maintaining a rustic and authentic jungle experience.
Before dawn, we board our boat and travel downriver to the Maskutania macaw and parrot clay lick, one of the most spectacular wildlife experiences in the Amazon. At sunrise, hundreds of parrots and macaws gather to feed on the mineral-rich clay, a fascinating natural behavior and an unforgettable visual display.
After this incredible wildlife encounter, we return to the lodge to enjoy breakfast. We then begin our journey back to Cusco, making strategic stops along the way for flora and fauna observation in the Amazon rainforest.
Lunch is included en route.
Arrival in Cusco in the afternoon, marking the end of an unforgettable Amazon adventure.
